In the USA, Father’s Day has been celebrated on the third Sunday in June since 1910. Traditionally, people would make a special effort to call or send cards to their fathers, grandfathers, brothers, uncles and other father-figures. Many give presents like sporting equipment, clothing and luxury food items. Picnics and BBQ’s are ubiquitous throughout the land. Many fathers cherish this day with their children even if they receive the proverbial “ugly tie”.
Just as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day was originally a pagan holiday, the Great Sky-Father’s Day. Part of the week of celebrations leading up to the summer solstice, the day was given over to celebrating the Sky-Father’s providing for his human children with his rich gifts of sun and rain. Gifts of sacrificial goats and sheep, recognizable by the festive ribbons bound about their necks, were supplemented with prayers for his continued guidance in the human journey towards spiritual adulthood.
Christian priests gradually attempted to neutralize the pagan rituals by focusing on the literal steps of the ceremonies, rather than their spiritual meanings. The passing of celebratory garlands from sons to fathers was retained and emphasized as the central act of the Great Sky-Father’s celebration rather than the sacrifices and prayers. The practice of tying ribbons was moved from the animals to the fathers, and thus began the custom of giving ties on Father’s Day.
Those who read and study The Set-apart Scriptures know that we must honor and respect our fathers and mothers every day (Deu. 5:16, Eph. 6:1-3). We do not need national holidays to show appreciation for our parents. Man-made customs are vain (Jer. 10:3a). This nation as well as all the countries of the world have been lead astray by the devil (Rev. 12:9). Men must once again take on the roles as leaders of their families and as priests of their homes. Fathers must cry out to YAHUAH Aluahim for wisdom and strength. Ultimately, our Heavenly Father will receive all honor and esteem forever.
Yahuchanan (John) 4:23-24 “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father also does seek such to worship Him. (24) “Aluahim is Spirit, and those who worship Him need to worship in spirit and truth.”
Ephesians 3:14-21 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Master YAHUSHUA ha’Mashyach, (15) from whom all fatherhood in the heavens and earth is named, (16) in order that He might give you, according to the riches of His esteem by power, to be strengthened in the inner man, through His Spirit, (17) that ha’Mashyach might dwell in your hearts through belief – having become rooted and grounded in love, (18) in order that you might be strengthened to firmly grasp, with all the set-apart ones, what is the width and length and depth and height, (19) to know the love of ha’Mashyach which surpasses knowledge, in order that you might be filled to all the completeness of Aluahim. (20) And to Him who is able to do exceedingly above what we ask or think, according to the power that is working in us, (21) to Him be esteem in the assembly by YAHUSHUA ha’Mashyach unto all generations, for ever and ever. Aman.
Revelation 14:6-7 And I saw another messenger flying in mid-heaven, holding the everlasting Good News to announce to those dwelling on the earth, even to every nation and tribe and tongue and people, (7) saying with a loud voice, “Fear Aluahim and give esteem to Him, because the hour of His judgment has come. And worship Him who made the heaven (sky) and the earth, and sea, and fountains of water.”
